Team Lead, Robot Testing and System Identification

We seek the world's most talented individuals with a passion for inventing and building a more prosperous future. As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for a we are looking for a talented Team Lead in Testing and Systems Integration. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring our NEO systems and sub-systems are rigorously tested and ready for real-world applications. You will oversee the verification, validation, and optimization of our robotic systems, leading a team focused on quality assurance and seamless system integration. A good roboticist with a passion for debugging, you will be responsible for defining and executing testing protocols, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating across teams to refine our robotic designs. This role requires hands-on experience with robotic systems, problem-solving skills, and a drive to ensure high-performance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of highly talented engineers in the testing and systems integration of humanoid robots.
  • Develop, execute, and manage test plans and procedures, ensuring all systems meet reliability, performance, and safety requirements.
  • Perform in-depth debugging and diagnostics to identify and resolve issues within robotic systems.
  • Work closely with other R&D teams to integrate subsystems and achieve seamless system functionality.
  • Oversee end-to-end testing processes, from initial system validation to final production testing.
  • Author clear, detailed documentation on test plans, procedures, results, and improvements.
  • Manage lab equipment and testing tools, ensuring the availability of resources for timely testing cycles.
REQUIREMENTS
  • You must be a roboticist, ideally in the humanoids or quadruped space.
  • Bachelor’s or higher in Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering field.
  • Hands-on experience in testing and debugging complex robotic systems.
  • Proficiency with test equipment and tools commonly used in robotic testing (oscilloscopes, data loggers, simulation software).
  • Experience in defining and executing both manual and automated test procedures.
  • Familiarity with system integration principles and troubleshooting techniques for multi-component systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills with experience managing a small team and delegating tasks effectively.

It will be nice if you had

  • Humanoid robot experience
  • Knowledge of industry-standard testing protocols and safety standards for robotics.
  • Experience in systems integration of complex mechatronics or robotics systems.
  • CAD and/or PCB design
  • Understanding of environmental testing, such as vibration, thermal, and humidity testing.

Location

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

We are in the heart of the SiIlicon Valley in a commuter-friendly location with plenty of parking, access to 101 or 280. If you prefer public transportation, Orange Line (VTA) light rail station is across the street. Living in the Bay Area, you will have access to many activities available in its proximity from surfing in Half Moon Bay to skiing at Tahoe, wine tasting in Napa, hiking on the many trails or other sports activities on the many tennis courts, golf courses, etc..

Typical interview process 

  • Introductions - interviews to learn more about you and talk about 1X and the role
    • Interview with a member of the Talent Acquisition team
    • Hiring manager / senior team member / technical interview
  • Team interviews - technical interviews and deep-dives with team members. May include a take home challenge, presentation or problem-solving exercise
    • Technical deep-dive conversation with a team member 
    • Onsite interviews with team members 
  • Final stages - you move to the final round
    • Expectation management with the hiring manager 
    • We will conduct reference checks
    • Job offer conversation 

Depending on the role and your background, additional interviews may be added.
